ST WILFRID'S CATHOLIC PRIMARY

Governor Profiles

Mrs E Morrissey

Chair of Governors

Foundation Governor

My name is Elaine Morrissey and I have been a member of St Wilfrid’s Governing Body since August 2007 when I was appointed as a Foundation Governor by the Bishop. I became Chair of Governors in September 2011 and have recently been re-elected to serve as Chair for a second term of office. My previous background included working for almost twenty-five years for  Cheshire County Council in the childcare sector in a variety of roles, from managing a residential facility for Children with Special needs, Social Worker for Children with Special Needs and until 2001 as a Development Officer for Under 8’s, where I provided training and advice to those who worked with children under 8.I currently help my husband run our business which is in International Design and Development  and we are involved in designing new products to be used in the Gardening Industry. Our offices are based in Antrobus Cheshire. I am kept quite busy especially during school holidays looking after our three Grandsons. Both my husband and I being Roman Catholics, regularly attend Mass and we try to play an active part in the life of our local Church. Finally I passionately believe that our pupils must have the very best education and learning that the whole school community can provide and I know that as a team we can make St Wilfrid’s an outstanding school .

Mrs E Buckhurst

Foundation Governor

Vice Chair

I have been a governor since September 2013. I am a retired teacher and worked at St Wilfrid's for seventeen very enjoyable years. I am proud to be involved with the school in a different role and will work hard to enable the school to continue its excellent dedication to every child's learning. I work on the Curriculum committee and enjoy coming into school regularly to help. I have two married sons who also attended St.Wilfrid's, I am very luck to have two grandsons to spend time with and also pursue various hobbies.

Dr A T McGough

Foundation Governor

I am the proud father of five children, all of whom have graduated from St.Wilfrid's and then from St.Nicholas'  I see in them the result of years of dedicated work of our teachers, who manage to coax the best from such varied pupils. Now retired, I am a physicist by training, and worked for many years in the computing departments of various large science-based companies; and then latterly for the NHS. I was 'volunteered' as a governor in 2001, and am pleased to serve wherever needed - mainly, it must be said, in finance and general admin. I rejoice to see our harmonious band of governors work together for our fine Catholic school.

Fr P Standish

Foundation Governor

Parish Priest of St.John Vianney

Mrs R Blair

Foundation Governor

As a mother of children educated at St.Wilfrid's and St.Nicholas and a grandmother of four currently attending St.Wilfrid's, I have strong links with the schools and Parish for 27 years. Having a wide background in primary school teaching, in both Catholic and Non-Catholic schools in Scotland, Canada, Yorkshire, Cumbria as well as Cheshire, I hope to use this experience in my role as Foundation Governor. Looking forward, I want to see St.Wilfrid's progress to 'Outstanding' so that all children can achieve their full potential in a Christian environment.

Dr A Leonard

Foundation Governor

I am a recently retired chemistry/science teacher from St Nicholas High School. I was the lead teacher on the primary-secondary liaison project for 10 years and have an understanding of the importance of the transfer process along with the excitement and trepidation involved. I believe that the firm foundation at primary school is the key to success at secondary level leading to employment/tertiary education and lifelong learning. I was responsible for Gifted and Talented Education and ran summer schools as well as providing extra-curricular opportunities for students including Oxbridge entrance. My belief is that everyone has talents which can be developed once they are identified. I worked alongside MMU as a professional mentor training teachers in all subject areas, providing me with an insight into the myriad of skills brought to the profession.

My three children attended St Wilfrid's and St Nicholas' schools and following graduation have fulfilling careers. I believe that the faith and learning foundations laid at St Wilfrid's have been the stepping stones to their success.

Mrs S Newey

Foundation Governor

I am delighted to be taking on the role of a foundation governor at St Wilfrid's with a lead focus in Foundations Stage.

As both of my children have gone through St Wilfrid's (and St Nicholas's too) I feel I have a good background into the school and have developed relationships within our school community which is important to delivering good working partnerships.

I believe all children have the right to the best education and the opportunity to shine with their own unique talents. I hope that I can play my small part in helping to achieve this as part of the wider governing body’s vision.

What can I bring to the role?

I have been involved in St Wilfrid's PTFA for 18 years, starting with 2 years as a member followed by 11 years as Chair & Trustee and a further 5 years as trustee.

For the past 4 years I have run Young PTA, each month, as an extra-curricular activity along with a group of dedicated ladies, to give the children an opportunity to develop their own fundraising & communication skills.

We also open them up to careers information which helps them identify what their talents can lead them into when they grow up.

With a momentous amount of hours volunteered, over the years, supporting children in our school with activities & reading I hope that I can bring something to the table and fulfill my role as a governor for the benefit of the children.

If any parents of would like to discuss any aspects of the foundation stage with me please do not hesitate to get in touch via Adrienne Bennett - School Bursar.

Mr Allan Davies

Parent Governor

I am a family person and live in Kingsmead, Northwich, Cheshire. I have four children, two adult children who have three children each, hence I am a grandfather, as well as having two young children both attending St Wilfrid's school. I am now retired from full time work and spend my time looking after our home and my two girls. My wife is in full time occupation as a Safety and Environment Manager in the Civil Service.

I am professionally qualified in Environmental Health and Housing Management and spent 27 years working in the public sector; my last post was Director of Environmental Services in a unitary local authority with responsibility for regulation enforcement, licensing, building control, trading standards, waste management, highway maintenance and traffic management. I also worked for the Health and Safety Executive after leaving local authorities to head a policy unit. 14 years of my professional life I was employed by Tesco Stores to head the trading law and technical function, nationally. Seven years in the UK in the 80's and seven years in Ireland until my retirement in 2014.

I have previously worked closely with schools and colleges, supporting and promoting their curricula as well as spending a number of years as chair of, initially a primary parent/teacher association and subsequently as chair of a senior school PTA.

I am currently a member of the St Wilfrid's PTFA and also volunteer at the school two mornings a week together with providing help and support for school visits and workshops

Mr Peter Evans - MBE

Foundation Governor

I am a former pupil of St. Wilfrid’s and St Nicholas School.

I joined the Fire Service on leaving School and was operational for 20 years in Runcorn and Northwich.  As a Fire Officer I ran the franchise of The Princes Trust for Cheshire Fire Service for 10 years.  On retirement I took up a position of Partnership Director for Lancashire and Cheshire Fire Service (Princes Trust Programmes).  Finally moving on to the Chief Executive of Petty Pool College and Outdoor Centre and retired in May 2015.

I was awarded in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in 2002 as a Member of the Order of the British Empire.

Mr Andy Reed

Parent Governor

I have volunteered with the Scout Association for over 15 years in a number of roles, working with teams of adult volunteers to deliver fun and adventure to young people across Salford, Trafford and Wigan.  As part of the leadership team and governance structure, I have experience in defining strategy and managing budgets, as well as ensuring that back-office functions are focused on the young people they are intended to support.  Having stepped back from adult support roles last summer, I continue to run a thriving Scout troop.

Through working in major IT Projects for large financial services companies and also within the public sector, I have experienced first hand the important difference that is made by good governance, control and support.  I am able to understand complex situations - often due to my refusal to accept "because it is" as a reason - which allows me to be able to take a pragmatic approach to solving both technical and people related issues.

I regularly take part in Mass at St Wilfrid's church and strongly below that the Catholic faith and teaching is an excellent foundation on which to build the citizens of tomorrow.

Mrs F Rose

Associate Govenor

I have just become an Associate Governor.  I am a retired teacher and I have lived and worked in Hartford for the last thirty years.  I began my teaching career at St Benedict's in Handforth and moved into Special Education at Greenbank School in 1979.  I had my three daughters and then had three lovely years at St Wilfrid's as the SENCO.  I returned to Greenbank School for a full-time post.  I remained there until I retired five years ago.

I attend St Wilfrid's Church.  I am very excited to become more involved with St Wilfrid's School and hope I can use my experience and enthusiasm to support all governor colleagues, staff and above all the pupils at St Wilfrid's School.  I look forward to being able to visit school regularly and contributing to activities as well as working on committees.

Mr P Billington

Associate Governor

Both myself and my wife Catherine were former pupils of St Wilfrid's and St Nicholas, but quite a long time ago!

We have 3 grown up children whom were all educated at St Nicholas before going onto University in Leeds and Liverpool.

We have been blessed with 6 grandchildren, with the eldest Grace now in her first year at St Nicholas, 4 attending St Wilfrid's at the moment and the youngest destined to start nursery her very soon.

My working life has been almost exclusively in Financial Services spending the first 36 years with Lloyds Banking Group before embarking on  a second career in Training and Compliance with my current role as Operation Manager for a Wealth Management company keeping me busy.

I enjoyed being a junior football coach with Hartford Boys FC for 10 years working through from the Under 8's up to the Under 18's, which I found very rewarding.

Banking relocation travels took us to North Wales, Shropshire and the Midlands before returning to Cheshire, in particular Hartford where we have lived since 1990.

My hope is to add value to the school by assisting Governors in matters that will benefit from my financial background experience whilst keeping an eye on Molly, Matilda, Max and Oscar plus preparing the staff to received Martha in the near future.
