SEN Teaching Assistant
WE HOPE THAT THE CHILDREN ARE ENJOYING USING PURPLE MASH AT HOME.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT WITH TOPIC HOMEWORK - THERE ARE MANY WONDERFUL PIECES OF WORK.
Welcome to Year 5! We hope that this will be a happy and successful year for your son or daughter. They look extremely smart and have made a very good start to the new school year. We are looking forward to teaching them.
Year 5 Staff:
There are two Year 5 classes.
Mrs Clark is the teacher of Earth class. Miss Turner will support some children in Earth class in the afternoons.
Mrs Davies (Monday & Tuesday) and Mrs Hames (Wednesday, Thursday & Friday) teach Neptune class.
Music lessons will take place on Wednesday afternoons. Once the children have their instruments, please ensure that they are in school every Wednesday.
Earth: Thursday (Monday until October half term with Miss Reid)
Please bring PE kits to school at the beginning of the week - thank you.
We will also practise yoga during the week and do the Golden Mile. We encourage the children to be as active as possible and love to hear about their sporting achievements outside school.
The children should bring their reading books home every day. Thank you for hearing them read a few times each week and discussing the text - we really do appreciate your support.
Spellings – 20 spellings will be given on Fridays. Please practise each day by looking at the word, saying it, covering it, writing it and checking it. Tests are on Fridays.
SPAG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar)– The children will be set pages to do in their SPAG homework books. These should be handed in on Thursdays.
Maths – Again, pages will be set and should be handed in on Mondays. Please can the children initially try to do the questions without support – then if they need any prompts or help, please do support them. If you have any concerns, please write a note in the homework book. Many thanks.
Topic (Learning Journey) – Each term, the children will be asked to do some creative homework linked to our topic, science and/or RE. This half term, in RE, we are studying Creation. Our Geography topic is Extreme Eart hand our Science topic is Light.
There will be a Parents’ Evening in October to discuss how your child has settled. If you have any concerns before then, please make an appointment at the school office and we will be happy to meet with you.
With best wishes Mrs Clark, Mrs Davies and Mrs Hames

|SPaG - due in on Thursday||p18 & 19|
MyMaths is an excellent online tool that supports the Maths curriculum. Each child has a login and is able to access this site. Teachers can set homework activities and children can also access 'lessons' and games linked to different topics and areas of Maths. If you are unable to log on or access the website, please speak to your teacher as arrangements in school can be made. Thank you.
It is important that children in year 5 are continuing to practise their times tables.
The school uniform shows that pupils belong to our school community and should be worn with pride. School Uniform is a requirement for being part of our school and is compulsory for all pupils.
Details of the uniform policy for KS2 children can be downloaded below. Please note that ear-rings and nail-varnish are not allowed and any hair accessories should be in school colours.
ALL the uniform worn by the children MUST have their name clearly marked on each item, using either a permanent marker OR printed name labels.
The reasons that we ask for everything to be labelled are:
- It helps your child to feel more secure in finding and looking after their own belongings
- It helps staff to get any items that may be lost back to their owners
Any unclaimed or unnamed items are placed in the outside container (on the playground) for Lost Property.
During the first week your child was given
A clear pencil case containing:
- A pencil
- A ruler
- An eraser
- A glue stick
- A whiteboard pen
- A blue school handwriting pen.
Pens that have run out and pencils that are too small to use will be exchanged by the class teacher.
- A diary for home/school communication
- A plastic zip wallet which they should use to keep their homework, letters, diary etc safe.
Colouring pencils, felt tips etc will be provided by the class teacher when appropriate.
- Your child will be expected to have all their equipment in school, every day.
- Children should not bring additional equipment to school.
- If your child misplaces/damages their equipment they will be expected to purchase replacements from the school stationery shop.
EBNOC is open from 7.30 a.m. and is offering breakfast. Watch out for information for all the activities that the staff are planning to provide both before and after school and during the school holidays.
Drinking water regularly helps children to concentrate and increases their ability to learn. Please remind your children to bring a named water bottle to school each day.
